TVS Motor Company today launched its iQube electric scooter in New Delhi. In view of the Delhi government’s drive to increase the population of electric two-wheelers and its dynamic EV policy, TVS is looking to make gains in the capital city.

Interestingly, the launch of the eco-friendly scooter came on the same day when Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the 'Switch Delhi' initiative aimed at citizens, commercial vehicle fleets and corporates to go electric

The iQube was launched in Bangalore in January 2020, priced at Rs 115,000. It is now available in select dealerships across the national capital, at an on-road price of Rs 108,012 (after FAME & Delhi state subsidy).

Powering the iQube is a 4.4kW electric motor that propels the scooter to a claimed top speed of 78kph. TVS claims the iQube can cover 75km on a full charge and a 0-40kph time of 4.2 seconds. The scooter has two riding modes – economy and power – and comes with regenerative braking. The battery on the iQube is not removable.

The TVS iQube is equipped with a ‘next-gen TVS SmartXonnect platform’ that includes a TFT instrument cluster and the TVS iQube app. Both these together enable users to access features such as geo-fencing, remote battery charge status, navigation assist, last park location and incoming call alerts/SMS alerts, among others.

When it comes to the design, the TVS iQube is quite simple and appears to target buyers of all ages. At present, the electric scooter is only available in a white finish. The 12-inch wheels look like the same ones that first made an appearance on the special-edition Jupiter. The headlight and tail-light on the scooter are LED units. The scooter also has a unique U-shaped LED DRL at the front, along with an ‘electric’ logo near the motor that comes with illumination.

Commenting on the launch, KN Radhakrishnan, director and CEO, TVS Motor Company, said, “The TVS iQube Electric is a blend of an advanced electric drivetrain and the next-gen TVS SmartXonnect platform. After its success in Bengaluru, we are thrilled to bring our iQube to Delhi, and are confident to scale great heights.”

As per Autocar Professional’s statistics, between April 2019 through to end-December 2020, a total of 457 iQubes were produced and 354 have been sold.

TVS to develop public charging eo-system in Delhi
TVS says it is providing customers with a comprehensive charging support,  ranging across multiple charging options. Customers can avail the recommended choice of SmartXHome, which offers a dedicated home charging solution with BlueTooth connectivity, live charging status and RFID- enabled security. At present, charging units for the scooter are installed across seven locations in Delhi. Further, the company says it is developing an expansive public charging ecosystem in the city, by expanding network strength with additional dealer partners.
