Transport Ministry to allow triple-deck trailers for two-wheeler shipments
MoRTH issues draft notification to allow rigid as well as trailers with a maximum of three decks; will enhance carriage capacity of two-wheelers by 40-50%.
In a move which will enable two-wheeler manufacturers to transport an increased number of vehicles in a single trailer-truck, India’s Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has proposed the allowing of triple-deck trailers.
In its draft notification [GSR 885(E)] dated December 27, 2021, MoRTH has proposed to allow rigid vehicles as well as trailers to have a maximum of three decks to transport two-wheelers, with the load body not projecting over the driver's cabin. This will enhance the carriage capacity of two-wheelers by 40-50%. MoRTH says “this has been done after examining the issue of static stability tests and dynamic stability of the three-deck vehicles.” and has invited suggestions from concerned stakeholders within a period of 30 days.
Transport of four-wheelers can have a maximum of two decks, with the load body as per AIS 113.
