Toyota recalls Innova to rectify faulty steering wheel cable

Even as Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) battles labour issues at its Bidadi, Karnataka plant, the company has announced a recall of its Innova MPV to rectify a faulty cable mounted in the  steering wheel. The recall will cover 44,989 Innovas manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008.

In a press statement issued today, TKM says that the faulty cable leads to continuous illumination of an airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster that gives a prior indication of a problem to the driver. In addition, the driver’s airbag may get deactivated.

The carmaker says it is currently working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once these parts are available, customers will be contacted by TKM dealers who will carry out the repairs, free of cost to the customer, in about an hour.

Earlier Toyota recalls include 6,782 units of the Corolla Altis for problems with the electrical contact module in the driver’s side power window switch, as well as Corolla diesels for problems with the FR drive shift. Most recently, 167 units of the Prius hybrid were recalled in India recently as part of a global exercise.
