Toyota Kirloskar Motor lauded for CSR and environment initiatives

Of the 83 companies which qualified for desk assessment, Toyota has been recognised along with other leading companies.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has received a commendation for its significant achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and environment management from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-ITC Sustainability Awards 2015. 

Of the 83 companies which qualified for desk assessment, after a rigorous evaluation process by a team of CII certified assessors, TKM has been recognised along with other leading companies. The results of each assessment are reviewed by an eminent jury, comprising leaders from government, industry, civil society and academia, at two stages before a final decision is taken.

In the CSR Category, TKM was lauded for its widespread initiatives to contribute to the development of the local community. These include providing free education and boarding facilities to meritorious students from economically weaker section of the community in Karnataka through the Toyota Technical Training Institute, upliftment of quality of education by reconstructing three government schools with basic amenities, participation in the Swacch Bharat: Swacch Vidhyalaya national campaign and constructing toilets across government school for the girl children, installing water purification units and also facilitating road safety awareness programs.

In the Environment Management category, TKM has been acknowledged for adopting best practices in order to achieve harmony between its manufacturing activities and the environment. TKM has envisaged a five-year environmental action plan and established a functional level robust environment management program, and is continuously working to achieve ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ and ‘Zero Fresh Water for Manufacturing’. TKM has also introduced a biogas plant to reuse kitchen waste and vermin-composting unit to reuse bio sludge.

Commenting on the award, Shekar Viswanathan, vice-chairman and whole-time director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “Environment and social contribution are inherent in the Toyota culture.
