Toyota Innova Crysta awarded 4-star safety rating by Asean NCAP
The next-gen Innova scored 76 percent in Child Occupant Protection; top-end model with ESC scored 5 stars in Adult Occupant Protection.
Toyota’s second generation Innova, christened Innova Crysta, has been awarded an overall safety rating of four stars at the Asean NCAP crash test.
The Innova, which was recently unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 in New Delhi, obtained 14.10 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). However, as Asean NCAP prerequisite for 5-Star requires the variant to be equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), only variants with ESC is eligible for 5-Star AOP while those without received 4-Star AOP. As for Child Occupant Protection (COP), the MPV achieved 76% compliance that puts it within the 4-Star category rating. The model has Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder (SBR) for both driver and front passenger, ISOFIX and top tether fitted as standard in all of Innova’s variants. ESC is available as optional for base but standard on higher variant.
The Toyota Innova Crysta in ‘Z’ trim level shown at the 2016 Auto Expo was listed with airbags, ABS, EBD and brake assist. However, the safety features to be offered as standard in India are yet to be seen.
The 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta is likely to draw power from an all-new 2.4-litre GD diesel engine that produces 147bhp and 34.87kgm when mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. There will also be an Innova Crysta variant with a six-speed automatic gearbox capable of producing 36.70kgm of torque.
Toyota is expected to launch the new Innova Crysta in India sometime this year.
