Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today opened its first Toyota Driving School in the National Capital Region (NCR) at Faridabad. Managed by Toyota dealership, Thirty Six Toyota, it is the carmaker’s sixth driving school in India after those in Kochi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

Present at the inauguration were Dr Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Commissioner of Police (Faridabad); Ashutosh Rajan, secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Faridabad; Chander Shekar Nagar, dealer principal, Thirty Six Toyota; and N Raja, director and senior VP, TKM.

In line with its vision of ‘Safest Car with Safest Driver’, the Toyota Driving School aims to make every student a responsible and safe driver. The curriculum comprises a comprehensive driver training program involving high quality, practical and futuristic training models like a driver simulator mechanism. To make this experience as realistic as possible, Toyota has incorporated features like IP, steering, and seats of an Etios car.

The curriculum covers traffic management, rules and discipline, safe and right driving concepts, manners and responsibilities  of a driver, simulation of driving on a real vehicle, all aspects of practical driving on road, driving in various  road and climate conditions, basic maintenance and repairs, emergency handling and systematic evaluation and feedback.

Speaking at the launch of the facility, TKM’s N Raja said: “Our first driving school in the NCR region reiterates our commitment towards road safety. The NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) report has revealed that on an average 17 people are killed in road accidents each and every hour and the primary reason of road accidents is poor road safety practices. It is our primary mission to ensure safest cars with safest drivers in the country and significantly reduce traffic accidents with our safety initiatives. It is not just another driving school for getting a driving license, but much more of a place that follows a comprehensive approach ensuring that every single student becomes a responsible driver on road and a safety ambassador in creating a safe road for everyone to use.”

Raja added, “With the launch of Toyota Driving Schools across India, the company aims to bring down the rising number of road accidents caused majorly due to human error. The training module will integrate technical expertise along with enhancing behavioural skills to create awareness about safety nationwide. Toyota Driving Schools have till date enrolled over 2,000 students and we look forward to double this number in 2017. By 2020, we plan to cross 50 such schools across India. We will be launching another five driving schools across India by 2017 and train around 5,000 students to be highly skilled drivers.”
