Tata Trusts and Tata Sons commit Rs 1,500 crore to fight Covid-19 outbreak

Tata Group companies to pool resources and expertise to tackle coronavirus outbreak.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic which is spreading across India and globally, Tata Sons has announced  additional Rs 1,000 crore support to . Earlier today, Ratan N Tata, chairman, Tata Trusts, had announced a set of actions and committed Rs 500 crore towards tackling the coronavirus-impacted situation in the country supporting the government in the battle against the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

The Tata Sons statement outlines that it will work together with the Tata Trusts and Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata and would be fully supporting their initiatives, as well as work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group.

In addition to the initiatives articulated by Tata Trusts, Tata Sons will also bringing in the ventilators necessary and is gearing up to also manufacture the same soon in India. 

Speaking about the current situation, Ratan Tata said, "The situation in India and across the world is of grave concern and needs immediate action. Tata Trusts and the Tata Group’s companies have in the past risen to the needs of the nation. At this moment, the need of the hour is greater than any other time. In this exceptionally difficult period, I believe that urgent emergency resources need to be deployed to cope with the needs of fighting the Covid - 19 crisis, which is one of the toughest challenges the human race will face."

According to a company statement, the funds will be used for personal protective equipment for the medical personnel on the frontlines, respiratory systems for treating increasing cases, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, knowledge management and training of health workers and the general public.
