T1 Prima Truck Racing C'ship: Biggies at play

The debut season of the T1 PRIMA TRUCK RACING CHAMPIONSHIP was won by Team Castrol Vecton, followed by Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies Motor Sports.

After an action-packed truck racing event last year, Tata Motors kicked off Season II of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship 2015, at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida, on Saturday, March 14. The main race will be held on Sunday, March 15.

With Season I having successfully concluded and cheered on by an audience of over 20,000 people, Season II once again features 12 Tata Prima race trucks built for the purpose, driven by experienced international truck racing drivers from the British & European Truck Racing championships.

Season II features two free practice sessions and a qualifying race on Saturday, March 14, followed by an 8-lap super qualifier and a 16-lap final race on Sunday, March 15.

For Season II Wabco, JK Tyres, Cummins, Castrol and Tata Technologies are the main sponsors, Setco Automotive and Tata Motors Finance, are sponsors of Team Allied Partners.

The six teams for the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship Season II are –                

1)     Team Castrol Vecton

2)     Team Cummins

3)     Team Tata Technologies Motorsports

4)     Team Allied Partners

5)     Team Dealer Warriors

6)     Team Dealer Daredevils

Last year's championship was won by Team Castrol Vecton, followed by Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies Motor Sports. Last year’s winners from these teams – Stuart Oliver, Dave Jenkins and Mathew Summerfield, are back this year.

Having recently announced the championship as an annual event, Tata Motors has also conceptualised and introduced a new Indian Drive Selection and Training Program for 2016. This program not only enhances potential driving skills but aims to create well-­rounded truck racing drivers.

The championship is organized by MMSC (Madras Motor Sports Club) and is being conducted under the aegis of FIA and FMSCI. The FIA is the governing body for world motorsport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organizations. The FMSCI is a longstanding member of the FIA and is the only national motorsport federation recognized by the government of India, for the promotion and control of motorsport in India, and is affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association.
