Tata Harrier sales cross 10,000 units in 6 months, Dual Tone variant launched

From January till end-May 2019, the Harrier had sold a total of 8,217 units, which means another 1,783 units (and more) have been sold in June 2019.

Sales of Tata Motors' flagship SUV have crossed the 10,000-unit mark since it was launched on January 21 at a starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh. The five-seat SUV is available in four variants – following the base Harrier XE are the mid-spec XM (Rs 13.75 lakh), XT (Rs 14.95 lakh) and the range-topping XZ (Rs 16.25 lakh). 

Due to its pricing, the Tata Harrier rivals a wide range of SUVs in the Indian market, including the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500 and more recently the MG Hector, 

To mark the sales milestone, and also to counter the recently launched top-spec MG Hector Sharp diesel priced at Rs 16.88 lakh, Tata Motors has introduced the Harrier Dual Tone on the  top-of-the-line XZ variant, and priced at Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Commenting on the introduction of the Dual Tone variant, Sibendra Barman – Vice- President, Sales Marketing and Customer Support, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors said, “Overwhelmed by the response received, we are delighted to offer the Harrier in dual-tone colour options and are confident that the Harrier’s desirability will rise further.”

Available only with the top-spec XZ trim, the Tata Harrier Dual Tone costs Rs 20,000 more than the standard mono-tone versions. There are two dual-tone options to choose from – Calisto Copper with a black roof, and Orcus White with a black roof. Thus far, the Harrier could be accessorised with official roof decals, though full-length roof wraps were offered as dealer-level fitments.

The Harrier continues to be available in the existing mono-tone paint schemes, namely Calisto Copper, Ariel Silver, Thermisto Gold, Telesto Grey and Orcus White, the last of which is the only colour available on the base XE trim.

While this is only a visual update, the Harrier is set to get crucial mechanical changes in the time to come. First up will be the upgrade to a BS VI-compliant version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine, which will also be more powerful, developing around 170hp. A Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be available in due course, and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol version is in development. Also in the pipeline is the larger seven-seat version of the Harrier, revealed as the Buzzard at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, which will counter the seven-seat MG Hector that’s due for launch next year.
