New Delhi, November 22, 2013: After launching a CNG-powered Nano, Tata Motors has formally launched two new additions to its CNG portfolio – Tata Indigo emax and Tata Indica emax. These two variants have been introduced in six markets and will now be available in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura. Tata Motors had first showcased its emax range at the Horizonext event in Pune in June 2013.
With CNG and petrol bi-fuel system options on their engines, the Indigo and Indica emax are claimed to have a low carbon footprint of 0.251 g/km and 0.338 g/ km, and fuel efficiency of 24.6 km/kg and 23.7 km/kg respectively.
Ankush Arora, senior vice-president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), said, “CNG is gaining momentum in the Indian automobile market and we are happy to announce expansion of our CNG portfolio. Besides offering exciting new features, these cars will be backed by an engaging purchase experience and advanced technology to be an economic, friendly choice for consumers.”
While the Indigo emax price range starts at Rs 4.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 5.27 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, for the Indigo GLS and Indigo GLX, respectively, the Indica emax range starts at Rs 3.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 4.26 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, for the Tata Indica GLS and Tata Indica GLX, respectively.
While the Indigo sell about 2,500 units a month, the Indica and Vista range sells in the region of 4,500 units a month. While both have made it to the monthly Top 10 in the past, both are no longer in the top pecking order. The company sold just 174 CNG units of the 2,120 units of the Nano in October 2013.
