The Swift was a car that achieved a cult status and drove into the Guinness book of records. Now, Maruti Suzuki has launched the all-new Swift based on an all-new platform. The car will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options.
While the petrol is the same 1.2 K-series motor that did duty in the old Swift, it now gets variable valve timing (VVT) that bumps up power to 86bhp. The diesel is the 1.3-litre Multi-Jet engine. While the petrol range is from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 5.53 lakh, the diesel range is pegged between Rs 5.17 lakh - Rs 6.38 lakh.
The new Swift gains 90mm in overall length; the wheelbase is 40mm longer. While overall width has increased by 5mm, height remains unchanged. The new Swift is a key part of Maruti Suzuki’s plan to take on the Toyota Liva. Apart from the Liva, the Swift will take on the Hyundai i20, VW Polo, Honda Jazz, Ford Figo and Nissan Micra. Till the very end, the old Swift sold about 12,000 units a month.
