Ssangyong Motor sales up 5.7% in September
SsangYong's September sales grew by 5.7% year-on-year and 7.5% on an accumulated basis, thanks to the continued sales uptrend led by the Tivoli brand models.
The Mahindra Group-owned SsangYong Motor Company sold a total of 12,144 units in September 2016 - 8,011 units in domestic sales and 4,133 in exports.
SsangYong's September sales grew by 5.7% year-on-year and 7.5% on an accumulated basis, thanks to the continued sales uptrend led by the Tivoli brand models.
Its domestic sales showed a recovery trend helped by an increase for two straight months after the terminated tax cut period for individual consumption. However, compared to the same month last year, it slightly dropped by 1.2% due to the unstable market situation.
On an accumulated basis, its domestic sales recorded a growth of 6.8% thanks to the continued sales uptrend of the Tivoli brand models which jumped by 11.9% over September 2015.
The company's exports, which have maintained a monthly sales level of 4,000 units since April, soared by 22.2% year-on-year helped by growing exports of the Tivoli brand models to the European market. Its January-September sales also grew by 9%.
SsangYong is accelerating its drive to expand market share in Europe by unveiling its concept SUV LIV-2, mass-production version of Y400 (codename) which plans to be launched in the first half of 2017 and by exhibiting main models including the Tivoli at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "SsangYong recorded high growth in both domestic sales and exports thanks to the popularity of upgraded models such as the Korando Sports, Korando Turismo and Tivoli," adding, "We will expand our global sales based on our upgraded main models."
