Chevrolet has added two LPG variants to its Spark. The LPG version comes with a certified factory- fitted next-generation sequential injection-type LPG kit which is imported from RC of Italy and is factory fitted to the Spark.
According to a General Motors India spokesperson, the volumes of the kits to be supplied by RC are dependent on the market requirements. The aftermarket kits are available in the market but will not carry the manufacturer warranty of first three-year/1,00,000km on LPG, same as for petrol.
The Spark LPG PS variant sells for Rs 3.52 lakh in Thane. Last year, GM sold 32,000 regular Sparks in India.
The LPG is injected directly into the cylinder unlike the earlier tech where the gas was injected into the intake venturi. GM claims this has benefits in both smoothness and fuel consumption.
The Automotive Research Association of India- certified figure for the Spark LPG is 13.7kpl. The Spark LPG is approximately Rs 20,000 more expensive than the petrol versions, but the running costs of LPG are about 50 percent cheaper.
