Sona Koyo Steering Systems bags ACMA trophy for excellence in innovation with its EPAM

New Delhi, September 5, 2013: Sona Koyo Steering Systems, which manufactures steering systems for passenger cars and utility vehicles, has received the Bronze Trophy for Excellence in Technology (large category) from ACMA at the association’s 53rd Annual Session and National Conference held in the capital.

The award was presented by the Union minister for the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Praful Patel to Sunjay Kapur, vice-chairman and MD of Sona Koyo Steering Systems. This award for innovation is attributed to Sona for developing EPAM (Electric Power Assist Module), which is an integrated design of ECU, torque sensor, motor and reduction gear train, all in one housing which provides assistance to the driver while steering off-highway/farm vehicles. Commenting on the award, Sunjay Kapur said, “We have been constantly developing on our technologies to provide a better and safer experience for our customers. We are delighted and excited to receive this award and thankful to the jury for recognising our efforts. We are constantly looking at opportunities to scale the next frontiers and will continue to innovate and re-invent our offerings”.

Sona Koyo says this technology was developed in collaboration with one of the largest manufacturers of agricultural machinery in the world. Patents for the same have been filed in the United States and granted, while the request for examination has been filed at the Indian Patent Office for the EPAM patent in India.
