End-August 2019 saw the Sona Group’s Sona BLW joins forces with Blackstone and Comstar to develop an India-specific, EV tech platform. So, it comes as no surprise then that  ‘Electrifying the drivetrain’ is the dominant theme for the company at the Auto Expo 2020 –  Components Show (Hall No. 11, Stall No. 46).

Sona BLW, which designs and manufactures precision forged bevel gears and differential assemblies for passenger, commercial and off-highway vehicles with a strong presence in electrical vehicles, has 6 manufacturing plants spread across North and West India, and its European subsidiary operates 4 plants - Germany (3) and Hungary (1).

Chennai-based Comstar’s products include BSG and ISG systems for full-hybrid vehicles, start-stop starter motors for mild hybrid vehicles, starter motors for conventional engines, as well as BLDC motors, alternators and other electrical motors. The company with an installed capacity of over 6.8 million electric motors, operates manufacturing facilities in India, USA, Mexico and China. Comstar is reputed for its zero PPM quality standards and its innovation culture which has helped the company produce 'Photon' - the world’s lightest starter motor.

At Auto Expo 220, Sona Comstar is showcasing not only the individual competencies of Sona and Comstar but also solutions that address the demands of new-age consumers. With the rapid transition to electrified drivelines, customers want integrated solutions that marry high-efficiency electrical machines with equally efficacious yet quiet mechanical drives.

Sona Comstar is exhibiting integrated driveline solutions for EVs, precision-forged driveline products, traction motors, differential assemblies, belt-starter generator for hybrid applications and other legacy products such as bevel gears, starter motors, and alternators.

Sona Comstar claims that its products are optimised for BS VI application and ready for hybrid and electric applications, where the expected tolerances and quality standards are more stringent than those of IC-based engines.

It is expecting enthusiastic footfalls from visitors. According to the company, with the advent of FAME II, there is a genuine need for world-class electric mobility components from system providers with a local presence.

Sona Comstar considers the emergence of EVs as an opportunity that offers a level playing field for stakeholders. The need to think differently and modify strategies to align with the new paradigm of autonomous, connected, electrified and shared mobility is the primary need of the times.

A regular at the Auto Expo since the inception of the Fair, the company's 120-square-metre stall will look at taking forward its products, solutions and technology to a broader audience. "Being a part of ACMA, it is also a show of solidarity and a combined effort to convey to the global OEMs our strength as a nation," the company says.
