SIAM's Auto Design Challenge 2014 is underway

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has kicked off activities around the Automotive Design Challenge 2014. The styling and design group has finalised three imaginary themes for the contest this year, based on which the participants have to create and submit their designs and clay models along with the presentations.

The first of three themes is what if Hyundai purchased a majority in Ferrari, and is now looking to build a special automobile as a homage to the legendary Enzo Ferrari. This idea invites budding  designers to create a unique confluence of Hyundai and Ferrari’s design languages together.

While the second theme invites students to think on the lines of BMW designing a pick-up truck, the third one assumes if World War II had not ensued and with countries and companies continuing to evolve unaffected, how would Auto Union’s development course be and how would it look like today.

The first submission of entries in electronic copies should be made before October 11, followed by Jury 1 shortlisting 10 candidates, for the next scale-model stage, by October 18. The results would be out by October 22 after which the chosen candidates would have to make  final submissions by February 7, 2015.

Through its course, the design challenge will evaluate the participants’ understanding of the selected theme, depth of understanding of the vehicle layout, flow of the design story, quality of execution and attention to details.
