Road Transport Ministry may exempt luxury buses from permits
MoRTH proposes to exempt AC Deluxe buses with a capacity of carrying more than 22 passengers.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed to exempt permit to the luxury bus segment for operations. The draft notification has been put up for more suggestions and may be furnished to the ministry within 30 days.
As per the notifications, the proposal is being put up as part of the initiative to provide a safe, dignified, reliable, comfortable and affordable public transport in Indian cities. According to the draft notification, the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 66 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), shall not apply to the following types of transport vehicles - AC Deluxe Bus (ACX) as defined in the Bus Body Code AIS-052, having a capacity of carrying more than 22 passengers.
