Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), India’s leading electric car manufacturer, is building a second manufacturing plant in Bangalore which, according to experts, will be the largest electric car facility globally. The new plant will be ready early next year. Reva will invest Rs 29.6 crore in this facility.
The company's existing assembly plant is located in Bommasandra Industrial Area in Bangalore and has a capacity of 6,000 units per year.
According to R Chandramouli president, sales & marketing, RECC, “We are building a new state-of-the-art assembly plant in Bangalore with a capacity of 30,000 units per year that is due for completion in Q1 2010. The plant is built to platinum standard LEEDS guidelines, with rainwater harvesting, solar charging, solar heating and natural light and ventilation in order to minimise our carbon footprint. RECC hopes to reach this capacity within the next three years and is also exploring opportunities to establish similar production plants in export markets to be able to take advantage of the growth in the sector over the next decade."
