Renault unveils Triber AMT Automatic, launch in Q2 2020

The Triber, which has sold 24,142 units in five months since launch in India and currently available only with a single engine-gearbox is to be soon joined by an AMT automatic version.

The popular Renault Triber, which has sold 24,142 units in five months since launch in India, is currently available only with a single engine-gearbox – a 1.0 petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. It will soon be joined by an AMT automatic version.

Renault India today unveiled its Triber Easy R AMT at the Auto Expo 2020. The car was unveiled by Fabrice Cambolive, senior vice-president, Chairman of Africa-Middle-East-lndia-Pacific Region, Groupe Renault and Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO and MD, Renault India Operations. The vehicle will be launched in the first half of this year.
With the Easy-R AMT option, Renault will take forward the key USPs of the Triber being a flexible, attractive and affordable four-wheeler. 

The Triber automatic is powered by the same BS VI-spec 72hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine like the manual, with the only mechanical change being the use of a 5-speed AMT gearbox. A conventional gear lever is part of the package, giving drivers the option to shift manually as well.  

Though the AMT version that’ll go on sale is expected to look identical to the manual, the model on display at the Expo sports blue highlights on the roof rails, dashboard and on the door panels.

When launched in Q2 2020, the Triber AMT will be costlier than the manual versions by Rs 50,000. Further down the road, Renault will also introduce a more powerful 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine to the compact 7-seater's line-up.

The Renault Triber has changed the rules in terms of space and modularity, targeted at a wide set of customers across segments, led by the B-segment. It also gave us the opportunity to be present in the largest and the fastest growing segment of the Indian automobile market. It is very motivating to see the outstanding response from customers and today we will take another step forward in the journey,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle.

“We will continue our pursuit of growth in 2020, led by a strong product plan and a strategic and collaborative approach with all our partners," he added.  

The company also showcased its EVs – the Zoe and K-ZE – at the expo. Mamillapalle mentioned that the company will roll out an affordable EV in the mass market in India within two years and concentrated efforts are underway to localise EVs in India.

Also on display at Renault's Auto Expo stall are the K-ZE EV, Zoe electric hatchback, Symbioz concept, and the Twizy.
