Chennai, December 18, 2012: Renault India has joined the host of carmakers who have all announced price increases, starting from the new year. Renault India has announced a price hike of up to 1.5 percent across its range of products, effective from January 1, 2013. The company, which sells five models (the Pulse hatchback, Scala and Fluence saloons, Duster and Koleos SUVs), has sold a total of 26,670 units in the April-November 2012 period. The Duster, with 19,246 units sold, is the prime contributor to sales in the current fiscal year (see table below).
Commenting on the price hike, Sumit Sawhney, executive director (sales & marketing), said: “Input costs have gone up tremendously. We are forced to pass on some of the burden to our customers as high input costs, coupled with high inflation, are all eating in to our bottom line.”
In its bid to grow sales, Renault India is increasing the number of its dealerships from the existing 75 dealerships across the country to around 100 dealerships by the end of 2012.
