Bangalore-based Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Ltd (RBEI), the engineering and IT business solution arm of Robert Bosch, says it has filed for 70 patents in India in 2014. This works out to about six patents a month last year.

According to Vijay Ratnaparkhe, RBEI’s president and managing director, the company is one of the biggest ‘patent filers’ in India. Globally the Bosch Group files around 4,000 patents a year.

RBEI Bangalore has been a consistent contributor to products developed for its parent company Bosch in many sectors including automotive and energy. “Some products have a major contribution from Bangalore RBEI centre,” said Ratnaparkhe .

According to Ratnaparkhe, in line with the Make in India program, the company encourages local manufacturing and aims at developing technologies within the country to evolve cost- effective production solutions.

In Bangalore today, RBEI showcased a few of its latest products that address challenges faced in the automotive, power and environment sectors.

R K Shenoy, senior VP, RBEI, said the next big technological revolution has already begun in terms of objects learning to communicate and the company is conducting research in the Internet of Things and Services and connected devices.

Of the products developed for the automotive and energy sectors, RBEI today showcased the Pollution Monitoring System (PMS), Connectivity Test Centre (CTC) and Advanced Genset Controller today.

The Pollution Monitoring System helps monitor a variety of gases, including CO2, which cause air pollution. The Connectivity Test Centre is a head unit used in the dashboard of the vehicles, primarily for Bluetooth activity involving mobile phones and other Global Positioning System (GPS). The systems can also cater to other Wi-fi-based activities in the car. The product is currently on sale in developed markets and a similar product sees fitment in cars from an Indian OEM since last year.

RBEI also showcased a testing equipment christened ‘e-cater’ used to test Electronic Control Units (ECUs). This portable tester checks the health of the ECU hardware and it is a cost- effective product developed for emerging markets like India.
