Along with the reveal of the premium Aprilia SXR 1560, Piaggio has revealed plans to engage in the electric mobility segment in India.

Italian two-wheeler OEM Piaggio today took the covers off the premium Aprilia SXR 160, which is to be manufactured at the Baramati plant in Maharashtra and slated for a commercial launch in August 2020. The fuel-injected Aprilia SXR 160 will come in two BS VI versions – 125cc and 160cc.

Some of the Aprilia SXR 160’s highlights include twin LED headlamp and tail-lamps, large lit-up understorage area and split glovebox with USB charging in front, integrated dark fly screen, large 210 square centimentre multi-function, digital cluster, ABS, 12-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and a sporty chrome exhaust.

Readying for electric mobility in India
Piaggio, which has considerable experience in electric scooters, has brought the Vespa Elettrica to the Auto Expo.

Speaking on the product reveals, Diego Graffi, MD and CEO, Piaggio India said: “India continues to remain a strategic market for us. In the past few years, we have seen the changing preferences in Indain consumers. Aligned to these changes, we are proud to introduce new products which cut across categories. The Aprilia SR 160 is set to create a new category benchmark. With the growing changes in the electric two-wheeler eco-system, Piaggio India is in the process of introducing innovative electric mobility solutions in India keeping the local consumer in mind. We are exploring multiple platforms for designing electric mobility solutions for India.”

Piaggio has also showcased the Limited Edition Vespa Racing Series, facelifts of the Vespa Red, Vespa SXL/VXL Facelift, and Aprilia SR 160 and Aprilia Storm 125 with disc brakes. These are all expected to be launched in Q2 2020.
