Chennai, October 9, 2013: Nissan Motor India has announced that it has received 6,000 bookings for its recently unveiled Terrano SUV. Based on the popular Renault Duster, the badge-engineered Terrano carries a slightly premium sticker tag. While prices for the 104bhp petrol-engined Terrano start at Rs 9.78 lakh, the 85bhp diesel starts at Rs 9.58 lakh and the 110bhp diesel starts at Rs 11.31 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). Interestingly, Nissan has decided that a 104bhp variant would be the sole petrol variant and, like the Duster, the Terrano also has the same 85bhp and 110bhp diesel engines. All variants have driver airbags as standard fitment, with the higher variants getting additional features like passenger airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist and reverse parking sensors. “We can produce 3,000 Terranos a month,” said Kenichiro Yomura, president, Nissan India operations. Yomura also confirmed that the Terrano would be Nissan India’s last product for the calendar year. “We have the Datsun (Go) for early next year,” Yomura added. He also confirmed that Datsun will have a presence at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi in February 2014. Asked if the Terrano’s performance will affect the Duster’s sales, Yomura quipped: “I hope my colleagues at Renault do their job well.”
