Nano on roads in July

Tata Motors launched its eagerly awaited people’s car, the Nano in Mumbai on March 23, with prices starting from Rs 1-lakh (ex-factory) for the base BS2 version. This makes it the cheapest car in the world and is in line with the target price set by chairman Ratan Tata back in March 2003.

The Nano is currently being manufactured at the company’s Pantnagar plant, which has an annual capacity of 50,000 units. From 2010, production will start at the 350,000 units per annum mother plant at Sanand in Gujarat, that is currently under construction.
