MG Motor India has announced retail sales of 3,823 units for August 2022, down 4.73% month on month (July 2022: 4,013 units). The carmaker has, in the first five months of the ongoing fiscal year, sold a total of 18,355 units, with the best monthly numbers coming in June 2022 (4,503 units). This is a 17% YoY growth (April-August 2021: 15,877 units).

MG Motor India is among the passenger vehicle OEMs which continue to face supply chain issues, which has impacted production. Nonetheless, in the April-July 2022 period, the company manufactured a total of 15,952 units, up 24% YoY.

In a statement, MG Motor India said: “The volatility in supply chains continues to cause many production challenges. However, this is expected to improve from next month onwards. In order to meet growing customer demand, the company has proactively undertaken multiple initiatives including localisation and the introduction of executive vehicle variants in its product mix.”

According to MG Motor India, it has a strong order book. The recent launch of the Advanced Gloster, with significant safety, style, and technology enhancements, at a starting price of Rs 31.99 lakh, is expected to double the sales of the Gloster model. The next-gen Hector, slated for a year-end launch, is expected to add to the growing momentum. Meanwhile, the ZS EV maintains its growth trajectory – in the April-July 2022 period, the eco-friendly SUV has sold a total of 1,251 units, up 37% YoY.
