Mercedes-Benz India drives past 10,000 sales in January-September

Mercedes-Benz India has registered a 34% rise in sales in the January-September 2015 period with deliveries of 10,079 cars in the first nine months of the year as against 7,529 units in the same period last year. The luxury carmaker has sold almost the entire volume of 2014 in the first nine months of 2015.

The luxury sedans comprising the new C-class, the E-class, the S-class and the CLA-class remained key volume contributors and grew by 39%, while the SUV portfolio comprising the GLA, M-Class, GL-Class grew strongly by 70%.

Giving a further boost to its SUV portfolio, Mercedes-Benz India will be launching the new GLE (earlier M-Class) on October 14 for the India market.

The carmaker has also witnessed strong sales performance from its top-end performance brand Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand. The recently launched Mercedes-Maybach S 600 is already sold out for the remainder of 2015 and the bookings for the locally produced Mercedes-Maybach S 500 has already commenced.

Commenting on the sales performance, Roland Folger, Mercedes-Benz India’s newly appointed managing director & CEO, said: “Mercedes-Benz’s success run in India continues as we sold almost the entire 2014 volumes in first nine months of 2015. This continuous sales success is a clear reflection of our customer centric approach and our relentless drive towards creating customers for life. I am glad to see the India strategy is bearing fruits, and we are well poised for entering the Q4 with a very strong footing.”

“The success of the first three quarters has been in line with our expectations and we are confident of achieving our target of a sustainable double digit growth. We not only launched 12 new products and revived the market, but also inaugurated 13 new outlets taking our network reach to an unsurpassable 80 outlets spanning across 39 cities. This underscores our customer centricity which is central to our business strategy. We will also redefine the luxury SUV segment with the launch of the new GLE on 14th October,” Folger added.

It may be recollected that Mercedes-Benz India had also clocked its best-ever Q2 performance (3,093 units) and highest-ever half-year sales (a record 6,659 units in January-June 2015, up 41% year on year).

Apart from the new GLE, Mercedes will launch two other models and will also open three new dealerships in India by the end of 2015.
