Maruti’s CNG sales cross the million mark
The company is also considering offering a CNG option for its Nexa range. This will mean offering this as an option to the models such as the Baleno, Ciaz and others sold in this chain
Maruti announced that sales of its CNG offerings have cumulatively crossed a million sales. The company has 9 CNG vehicles in the personal and commercial segment which include the Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Super Carry and Tour-S.
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti said, “ As a company, our aim is to offer safe, reliable, clean, technologically advanced and environment friendly vehicles to our customers. Our S-CNG range is specifically designed, developed and manufactured at our facilities to suit the Indian driving conditions.”
The company is also considering offering a CNG option for its Nexa range. This will mean offering this as an option to the models such as the Baleno, Ciaz and others sold in this chain, the company’s executive director, sales and marketing, Shashank Srivastava has told Autocar Professional in an earlier interaction. A survey conducted by the company has indicated that offering a CNG option does not impact the aspirational quotient of the cars sold under Nexa.
Maruti’s competitors – Hyundai Motor and Tata Motors – have already eyed the gap in the market and are offering CNG in higher-spec variants of their respective models, such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Tata Tiago and Tigor. These cars combine CNG with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control as well as projector headlamps. Most buyers who opt for these cars are looking to reduce recurring fuel costs, but not at the mercy of modern comfort or convenient features.
