Maruti Suzuki sells 135,775 units in November, down 2.4%
After two good months and having benefited from pent-up demand and festive sales, passenger vehicle market leader sees marginal growth in November.
Maruti Suzuki India, the passenger vehicle market leader and the bellwether of the industry, has reported total sales of 135,775 units in November 2020, down 2.4% year on year (November 2019: 139,133). Clearly, the market momentum of September and October could not be sustained and it looks like the coming months will be tough going for the PV industry.
The entry level hatchback duo of the Alto and S-Presso sold a total of 22,339 units, down 15.1% (November 2019: 26,306), which indicates that customers in this segment are still vacillating on new car purchases.
The six-car pack of the Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire together added 76,630 units, down 1.8% YoY (November 2019: 78,013) and considerably down on October 2020’s 95,067 units, which were a strong 26% YoY growth (October 2019: 75,094 units).
The Ciaz sold 1,870 units, down 29% YoY (November 2019: 1,448) but bettering October’s 1,422 units, September’s 1,534 units and August’s 1,223 units.
The utility vehicle segment, a market which is seeing massive competition as well as a continued wave of demand, sees Maruti Suzuki notch marginal growth. The quintet of the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 sold a total of 23,753 units, up 2.4% YoY (November 2019: 23,204).
The two vans – Eeco and Omni – rounded off the month with 11,183 units units, up 10% (November 2019: 10,162).
