Maruti Suzuki India today inaugurated its 250th commercial vehicle showroom in Dehradun. The company’s CV dealer network is among the fastest growing automobile retail channels in India and has expanded its presence to over 193 cities in the country. The company currently retails the Super Carry small commercial vehicle, which has been recording a smart uptick in domestic market sales.

Commenting on the expansion of the company’s CV retail channel, R S Kalsi, senior executive director - Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Within the LCV segment, the mini-truck segment comprises close to a third of the sales and has been growing at a CAGR of 21 percent during the last four years. The Maruti Suzuki Super Carry has been developed specifically for India, keeping in mind the unique requirements of the Indian mini-truck customer. The company’s commercial channel is the fastest growing channel in India and is amply supported by the extensive Maruti Suzuki Service network. This enables our customer to always be on the move in life and in business.”

The Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment has been the largest volume contributor in the commercial vehicle industry. Globally, Suzuki Motor Corporation has expertise in this segment and the Super Carry is part of that lineage. Maruti Suzuki has invested about Rs 300 crore in the Super Carry project.

The Super Carry is powered by a two-cylinder turbocharged 793cc diesel engine and an all-new 1200cc CNG engine variant. In the 26 months since its launch in September 2016, the Super Carry has sold a total of 23,524 units across India, with the highest monthly sales coming up in October 2018 – 2,152 units.

FY2017: 900
FY2018: 10,033
FY2019: 12,591 (April-October 2018)

According to Maruti Suzuki’s internal research, nearly half of the company’s customers are businessmen, small traders or are self-employed.

Competition in the 2T mini-truck segment has increased also because overall numbers are reducing with buyers favoring higher-tonnage vehicles of up to 3.5T to meet the boom in last-mile deliveries.
