Maruti Suzuki opens bookings for new high-on-mileage Celerio
Launched in January 2014, the Celerio has till end-September 2021 sold a total of 592,498 units. Will the new petrol Celerio draw buyers in a time of sky-high fuel prices?
Maruti Suzuki India has opened bookings for its next-gen Celerio hatchback. Given that the timing of the bookings commencement comes at a time of record high petrol prices – Rs 115.50 a litre in Mumbai on November 1 – the carmaker is banking on the Celerio’s high fuel efficiency credentials to draw buyers.
The new Celerio can be pre-booked for Rs 11,000 at the company website or at Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms.
The high fuel efficiency will be delivered by a new K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT Engine with idle start-stop technology. However, Maruti Suzuki has not released specific details of the certified kilometres per litre achieved.
Commenting on the next-gen Celerio, Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Since its launch, the Celerio took the market by storm. The revolutionary Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology helped democratise the two-pedal technology in the country. The all-new Celerio with a new petrol engine, vibrant and stylish design, and with host of segment-first features is an all-rounder. We are confident that the All-New Celerio will once again energize the compact segment.”
CV Raman, Chief Technical Officer (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Powered by next-gen K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine with first-in-segment idle start-stop technology, the all-new Celerio will be the most fuel-efficient petrol car in India.”
Launched in January 2014, the Celerio has sold a total of 592,498 units till end-September 2021. This total comprises 563,073 petrol variants, 11,761 diesel variants (from May 2017 to December 2016) and 17,664 CNG variants.
