New product launches in the small commercial vehicle segment and extending the M&HCV range are reflecting Mahindra & Mahindra’s (M&M) strong sales numbers in October 2015.
The company’s total commercial vehicle sales are up 31 % in the month with sales of 18,756 units (October 2014: 14,345). Like last month, Mahindra M&HCV sales remain strong, up 169% with 581 units (October 2014: 216 units).
Bucking the industry trends largely due to the popular pick-up range, the less than 3.5 T GVW segment notched 29% growth; it sold 17,770 units (October 2014: 13,811 units). Similarly, the above 3.5T GVW segment sales rose 27%, selling 405 units (October 2014-318 units).
The three-wheeler segment is up 6 percent, selling 5,999 units (October 2014: 5,678). Total exports registered were up 3 percent with 2,568 units (October 2014: 2,502).
Targeting the popular Ace, M&M last month launched two new products on the all-new small commercial vehicle platform called Supro – the 8-seater Supro Van and Supro MaxiTruck for small goods movement. Speaking at the launch, Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (automotive), M&M, had said: “At Mahindra, we have regularly created disruptions in the market and the simultaneous launch of two all-new Supro products is a clear validation of our approach. Both vehicles are set to redefine their respective categories. We have taken a significant leap by comprehensively addressing the needs of customers in both people as well as cargo movement with the launch of the Supro platform.”
In August this year, M&M which unveiled 49-tonne heavy commercial vehicles has announced plans to foray into the intermediate and medium commercial vehicles segment in the near future.
The company that currently makes and sells CVs with gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging between 3.5 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes (LCV category) and 25 tonnes to 49 tonnes (HCV category), now plans to fill in the gap by positioning multiple products in the 7.5- to 16-tonne category.
To strengthen its presence in the LCV segment, the company launched the Jeeto small commercial vehicle, which replaced the Gio.
