Mahindra opens Technical Center in US
September 25, 2012: Mahindra & Mahindra has inaugurated a new technical centre in Troy, Michigan, its first in the US, that aims to leverage Michigan’s automotive talent pool.
September 25, 2012: Mahindra & Mahindra has inaugurated a new technical centre in Troy, Michigan, its first in the US, that aims to leverage Michigan’s automotive talent pool. This new facility will initially employ 25 engineers and can accommodate twice that if required. The facility was inaugurated by Rajan Wadhera, chief executive —Technology, Product Development and Sourcing, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra Group, along with Michael Finney, president and CEO, Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Janice Daniels, Mayor, City of Troy and Prashant Kamat, CEO, Mahindra Engineering. “The Troy Center is the latest addition to our ‘neural network’ of innovation which also comprises our other research facilities in India, US, China and Korea,” said Wadhera.
M&M’s current workforce in North America is about 100 with over 60 percent being US nationals. “Wherever we are located, our priority is to contribute to the local community and economy,” said Kamat.
Mahindra Tractors recently opened its fourth North American assembly and distribution facility in Bloomsburg, Pennslyvania. The Mahindra Authorized Distribution Center will focus on the requirements of Mahindra’s Max series tractors and compact tractors which were developed primarily for the US market.
Three months ago, M&M said it had put its plans to launch Scorpio-based pickup trucks in the US on hold. Apart from regulatory norms, a weak US market were cited as reasons for this decision. M&M also ran into some legal issues with Global Vehicles which it had appointed as its US dealer.
