Mahindra teases new e-SUV range

After outlining its BEV or the Born Electric Vision that aims to develop ground-up electric vehicles to tap the growing demand for EVs, Mahindra & Mahindra has teased three new all-electric SUV concepts which will be completely revealed later this year.

The company plans to unveil the three concepts, which are likely to include a compact SUV, a midsized SUV as well as an SUV coupe, in July, and will spawn its upcoming range of electric SUVs that will start getting introduced from 2025.

M&M has been gearing up towards its EV initiatives, and the new concepts will come out of its newly-established design centre – Mahindra Advance Design Europe (MADE) – in the UK which is led by its chief design officer, Pratap Bose in June 2021.

In an earlier appointment, the Indian-origin carmaker had, in April 2021, also on-boarded Dr Uli Stuhec as the VP and head for the global Born Electric platform to lead the company’s EV Tech Centre in Detroit.

The company has also been leveraging learnings from its participation in the Formula-E into the development of its EV powertrains and platforms. Cross-functional synergy between Mahindra Racing and M&M’s EV development teams, including those at the aforementioned Detroit Tech Centre, is progressing with knowledge-sharing on safety standards of high-voltage powertrains. It is understood that the focus is also high on the use of software and simulation to optimise the all-electric products for better range.

The teasers of the new concepts hint at a modern design language with C-shaped LED signatures both at front as well as rear. With MADE located in Coventry, UK, M&M is expected to leverage the skills and experience of the design talent in this hotbed of automotive design, to develop its new range of electric SUVs.
