In a departure from the earlier XUV700's strategy of offering 4WD only in automatic variants, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Thursday introduced the Scorpio-N, Z4 Diesel Manual Transmission FWD targeted at adventure seekers pricing it at Rs 16.44 lakh whereas the Z4 Diesel Automatic Transmission entry level FWD is priced at Rs. 18.4 lakh respectively.

Interestingly M&M as part of its pricing strategy has kept a Rs 200,000 price difference between any basic and higher trim model in the same category with a proviso that current prices are applicable for the first 25,000 bookings only.

Bookings will open on July 30th onwards with deliveries expected to commence from 26th September onwards and to be completed by December 2022.

With the focus of the production skewed towards the top-end Z8L trims, the Scorpio N that was initially launched at an entry level price of 11.94 lakhs is priced at Rs. 21.94 lakh for its top end Z8L Diesel Manual Transmission FWD whereas Z8L Diesel Automatic Transmission at Rs. 23.9 lakh is the highest priced variant the company is offering with its 4XPLOR Intelligent Terrain Management System.

The company, our sister publication, Autocar India, has learnt, is slated to have a production of 20,000 units till December 2022 with the top model Z8L to get the highest preference within the different powertrain options.

As of July 1, 2022, M&M had over 143,000 cumulative bookings as of July 1, 2022 for five of its utility vehicles – the XUV700, XUV300, Thar and the Bolero.  While the XUV700, XUV300, Thar and the Bolero cumulatively add up to 135,000 bookings, the balance is for other models from the M&M stable.
