Lumax Cornaglia opens new plant in Pune, expands capacity by 40%

Lumax Cornaglia Auto Technologies (LCAT), a subsidiary and joint venture company of Lumax Auto Technologies and Cornaglia, Italy, has expanded its India operations by opening a new manufacturing facility at Chakan in Pune.

LCAT is engaged in the business of manufacturing air filters and fuel tanks for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. With this new facility, LCAT will enhance its current production capacity by almost 40%, in a phase-wise expansion.

The new plant is essentially a replacement of its original 32,000-square-foot plant in Chakan which had proven to be small in view of the expanded business. The new facility, spread across 250,000 square feet and housing an in-house R&D laboratory, has seen an initial investment of over Rs 30 crore.

It is equipped with modern precision European machines for best-in-class high-quality production for a diverse product range of air filtration systems, snorkels, blow moulded products like AdBlue tanks (urea tanks) and degassing tanks. This plant will also manufacture plastic fuel tanks for commercial vehicles.  A unique and niche technology of 3D Blow Moulding products like Hoses & Ducts will also be manufactured here. All the products are in compliance with the new regulations laid by the Government of India and of CAFÉ and RDE norms.

LCAT has also entered the roto-moulding segment for manufacturing plastic fuel tanks, fenders, roofs, and mudguards along with design and development facilities.

Anmol Jain, MD, Lumax Auto Technologies said, “LCAT has been active in the Indian auto sector since 2007 and it is gratifying to see a world-class facility being built in India to locally manufacture its emission and moulded product range. This investment represents the Group’s long-term commitment to its customers, employees, and business associates in the country.”

Deepak Jain, Director, Lumax Auto Technologies said, “Our partnership with Cornaglia Group enters its 16th year and together we have been offering the world’s best technologies to the evolving Indian auto market. Strengthening our R&D base further, we intend to better support our customers.”

“Our relationship with Lumax is like a marathon, strong and steady. We have witnessed growth and stability in the past years. The OEMs have shown encouraging interest in our product category and we are looking for healthy traction in the years to come. This is a win-win partnership,” commented Pier Mario Cornaglia, Chief Executive Officer, Cornaglia Group, Italy.

“This new facility, perhaps, is the only Indian company establishment to have plastic moulding technologies inhouse all under one roof – injection, 2D Blow, 3D Blow and Rotational Moulding. We have become a one-stop solution for complete vehicle level emission product requirements of any auto OEM,” added Vikas Marwah, Chief Executive Officer, Lumax Auto Technologies.

The company's major customers include Tata Motors, Skoda Volkswagen India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Toyota Indonesia, Mahindra & Mahindra, Stellantis, MG Motors, Seat, Skoda, and VW Poland.
