December 18, 2012: The KSPG Group is to showcase its product strength at the 13th Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT) to be held in Pune from January 9-12, 2013.
For KSPG with its two production and sales locations in the Pune region, SIAT is an important platform to show trade visitors locally produced engineering highlights along with new and forward-reaching development projects.
At SIAT, the Group is presenting emission-reduction components such as electric and pneumatic exhaust gas recirculating valves and exhaust gas flaps as well as various types of plain bearings. Besides state-of-the-art high-duty pistons, on display will be vacuum pumps plus variable-flow and electric water and oil pumps which contribute toward reduced fuel consumption and hence lower CO2 emissions.
One highlight among the exhibits is a range extender (pictured above). Range extenders are used in periods between recharging cycles and extend the range of electrically powered vehicles. They alleviate ‘range anxiety’, a phenomenon not to be underestimated when introducing electric mobility. From a technical standpoint, a range extender amounts to an additional power unit, in most cases a combustion engine which drives a generator, which in turn powers the battery and electric motor. KSPG has in recent months developed a small, compact, 30-kilowatt range extender that has meanwhile undergone trials in a Fiat 500 and is impressive for its performance and NVH properties.
For many years, KSPG has been present on the Indian market and since 2007 has had, together with Pierburg India, a subsidiary directly in Pune, besides operating a production location at nearby Takwe. This is where the Group produces, besides plain bearings, components for emission control as well as pumps for the Indian automotive industry. The Group has also has a 20-percent stake in piston producer Shriram Pistons & Rings, New Delhi, and a licensee agreement with Jaya Hind Industries, Pune, for the development and production of cylinder heads, engine blocks, bedplates, and other castings.
