July 16: SsangYong Motor, part of the Mahindra Group, has said it sold 12,858 vehicles in June 2013 – 5,608 vehicles in Korea and 7,250 in exports, including CKD kits. Its sales uptrend continues for the fourth consecutive month since February.
This strong performance was driven by the launch of the Korando Turismo, with the company’s monthly sales exceeding 12,000 units for three months in a row, increasing by 28.1 percent year-on-year. Its cumulative sales from January 2013 also rose by 22.6 percent as against the year-earlier period.
The Korando brand family including the Korando Turismo has led this sales momentum. Dr Pawan Goenka, president, automotive and FES, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “The creation of the Korando sub-brand is another key success factor for the company that is attracting younger buyers.”
SsangYong’s June exports increased 20.7 percent year-on-year and its cumulative sales rose by 15.4 percent compared to the same period last year as a result of increased shipments to Russia and central and LatAm markets such as Chile. In particular, 18,858 units were exported to Russia in the first half of 2013, accounting for 46 percent of overall exports.
