Kia India has reported wholesales of 24,600 units in February, a 36% year-on-year increase (February 2022: 18,121 units) and maintaining strong growth momentum.

Cumulative sales for the first 11 months of the ongoing fiscal year add up to 247,728 units, up 51% YoY (April 2021-February 2022: 164,165 units). With one month left for FY2023 to close, Kia India has already notched its best-ever fiscal year numbers, having gone ahead of FY2023’s 186,787 units.

Interestingly, the Sonet compact SUV is the best-selling Kia product in February with 9,836 units, ahead of the longstanding best-seller the Seltos (8,012 units). This is possibly the first time that the Sonet has outsold its high-selling midsize sibling SUV in the Indian market.

Meanwhile, the Carens MPV clocked sales of 6,248 units and the Carnival MPV sold 504 units.

Proof of the Carens MPV's growing stature is that with 64,212 units, it has contributed to 26% of Kia India's total sales in the first 11 months of FY2023.

Carens: the new growth driver

The Carens MPV is fast turning out to be the new growth driver for Kia India. Launched a year ago, the Carens has sold a total of 76,904 units till end-February 2023 including 64,212 units in the April 2022-February 2023 period.

In the fiscal year to date, the Carens accounts for 26% of the company’s total sales, which is indicative of the high level of demand it enjoys in a competitive market. Meanwhile, the Seltos (93,578 units) and Sonet (85,419 units) account for 38% and 34.50% of Kia India’s total PV sales in the first 11 months of FY2023.

Proof of its speedy progress can be seen in the fact that in CY2022, the Carens with 62,756 units was ranked 11th among India’s Top 25 utility vehicles.

Commenting on February 2023 sales numbers, Hardeep Singh Brar – National Head, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said, “Kia has recorded another successful sales run in the month of February. Achieving 35.8% growth against the industry’s growth of 10% shows the love and confidence the Indian consumers have for the brand. Our continued efforts to delight customers reflect in our sales figures every month across our product offerings. Kia India is known for developing products that create benchmarks in their segment and the industry, and the Carens is another example.”
