Kensai Nerolac, which has about 75 percent of the OE paint market in India, is eyeing a greater share of the refinishes market in the country, which is estimated at Rs 1,100 crore. These comments were made by executive director, auto division and supply chain, Pravin Chaudhari.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the Auto Expo 2014 at the India Export Mart in Greater Noida. He also added that the company has, over the past year, added a slew of new clients including Fiat India, Volkswagen, Daimler and Isuzu. The company’s current portfolio includes nearly all OE carmakers and commercial vehicle manufacturers.
According to Chaudhuri, the potential for refinishes is based on the fact that the organised aftermarket and even pre-owned car sellers are keen to ensure that the vehicles their clients buy look good and even appreciate touch-ups being done at the time of servicing.
Incidentally, Kensai Nerolac provided the purple paint that is on the recently-launched Nano Twist that comes with power steering. The company has recently inaugurated its third plant in the country in Bangalore from which it will supply to Toyota, Mitsubishi and Isuzu.
