Jeep Compass gets 1,000 bookings in India
The made-in-India SUV will initially be sold with a 2.0-litre diesel engine; a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol to be introduced later.
Jeep is to launch the Compass SUV in India soon. The manufacturer has announced that its first 'Made-in-India' SUV has already gathered 1,000 bookings. Jeep had commenced bookings for the Compass at both showrooms and on its website on June 20, 2017.
The Jeep Compass for India gets five variants with five exterior shades to choose from. The SUV is powered by a 172hp, 2.0-litre diesel motor mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The second engine on offer at a later stage will be a 1.4-litre, MultiAir turbo petrol engine from Fiat good for 162hp. This engine will come with a six-speed manual as well as a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Sources have told Autocar India that the Compass will initially be sold only in a diesel MT configuration. A diesel AT (nine-speed auto), along with the petrol engine (with both gearboxes) will join in at a later stage. The Compass will be sold in India with both 2WD and 4WD configurations, depending on the variant.
All Jeep Compass variants in India feature 60:40 split rear seats and come with as many as six airbags. The company has claimed that the Compass comes with more than 50 safety and security features such as electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system and dynamic steering torque. As far as features go, the higher-spec variants of the Jeep Compass get 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment system loaded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Jeep Compass takes on the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the recently launched Volkswagen Tiguan SUVs in the Indian market.
The Compass is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh for the base trim, going up to Rs 25 lakh for the top-spec variant.
