While the Pune-based Jaya Hind Industries is engaged in aluminium die casting, Montupet is a French industrial group which specialises in the design and production of complex cast aluminium parts for the automotive industry.

The joint venture has been set up for the development and manufacture of automotive cylinder heads in India. A combination of world-class technologies and cost-management efficiencies are the core strengths of this venture.

The plant, which will produce cast aluminium parts by employing gravity die casting technology, will initially supply to Ford India’s plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The Rs 200 crore facility has an installed capacity of 325,000 cylinder heads per annum, which can be ramped up to 1 million units a year. The plant has been set up on a five-acre site, which is part of a 25-acre land parcel acquired by the company. This joint venture plant is part of Montupet’s globalisation strategy. The JV has another plant at Urse in Maharashtra.

Speaking on this occasion, Prasan Firodia said, “The inauguration of this state of-the-art plant at Dewas marks an important step into the manufacture of high-precision cylinder heads in India. It is a matter of great pride that we shall cater to not just India but also the Russian Federation and entire Asia-Pacific region.”

The Dewas plant is capable of producing high-precision cylinder heads compatible for Euro 4, 5 and 6 engines to power new-age vehicles manufactured by global OEMS. It has already started rolling out the first batch of cylinder heads for Ford’s global engine program. India is the lead country for the launch of the new global petrol engine and Jaya Hind Montupet’s new plant is the first to be producing this in the world.

According to company officials, the plant will also become an export hub for markets like Russia, China and the Asia-Pacific region.
