Isuzu Motors India today revealed the next-generation D-Max pick-up at the Auto Expo. The vehicle now gets a more upmarket interior and shares underpinnings with the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV. The pick-up
will be built at the company’s new manufacturing plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh from April 2016 and will be priced around Rs 15 lakh. The commercial version of the D-Max CrewCab will be priced between Rs 8.5-Rs 9.5 lakh.
Based on the same underpinnings as Chevrolet’s Trailblazer, the D-Max’s interiors are also in line with the SUV's. It shares the dashboard with the Trailblazer with the exception of the instrument cluster and Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system. This new interior makes the Isuzu D-Max look more upmarket than the company's even more premium MU-7.
The four-door D-Max is powered by a 2.5-litre, 130bhp, BS IV diesel motor paired with a five-speed automatic gearbox, and gets all-wheel drive.
Speaking at the product reveal, Susumu Hosoi, chairman and representative director, Isuzu Motors, Japan, said: “India is gaining huge significance in the global arena due to the fast-moving economy and thrust on various growth factors.”
Naohiro Yamaguchi, MD, Isuzu Motors India, added: “The pick-up market in India is expected to grow manifold and Isuzu lays strong emphasis on offering a range of its latest D-Max products. We anticipate demand for a thoroughbred adventure utility vehicle like the new D-Max V-Cross. Meanwhile, the new range of commercial purpose D-Max pick-ups will continue to be a preferred package for many business enterprises, thanks to the versatility and functionality it offers.”
