In a bid to make the most of the booming scooter market in the country, India Yamaha Motor has launched a new gearless scooter – the Fascino.

The automatic Fascino is powered by Yamaha's patented Blue Core technology. It is powered by a 113cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine and uses a pair of valves per cylinder for intake and exhaust duty. The new scooter develops 7bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 0.8kgm is produced at 5000rpm. It comes with the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) type gearbox.
The Fascino gets telescopic suspension upfront and a monoshock at the rear. It gets 10-inch wheels and seat height is at 775mm.

With a fuel tank capacity of 5.2 litres, Yamaha's latest offering weighs 103kg. Available in red, white, black and two shades of blue, the fashionably styled Fascino is priced at Rs 52,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Speaking at the launch in Mumbai yesterday, Masaki Asano, managing director, Yamaha Motor India Sales, said, “The Fascino is designed for the Indian youth who represent over 50 percent of the population in India.”

Roy Kurian, VP (Sales & Marketing), Yamaha Motor India Sales, added, “India has the world's largest two-wheeler market with a total annual demand of approximately 16 million units (2014). Out of the total demand, the scooter segment constitutes 27 percent of the market, and is growing further year by year. Since 2012, Yamaha Motor has been introducing a range of scooters – including Ray, Ray Z and Alpha – and has been increasing its customer base in the Indian market. The new Fascino is intended to further expand sales in the scooter category, which is expected to grow further, especially among the youth.”
