New Delhi, 27th February, 2013: India Yamaha Motor, which is going about its safe riding training programme to educate young women to adopt safe riding habits, conducted the Yamaha Female Riding Training Program (YFRT) in Janki Devi Memorial College of Delhi University yesterday which saw over 80 female students participated YFRT sessions was also held at Lakshmibai College of Delhi University where around 100 female students participated in the riding training session.
Speaking on the occasion, Jun Nakata, director, Yamaha Motor India Sales, the company’s recently opened separate sales and marketing arm, said: “Young girls these days consider scooters a viable option for commuting and the best way to encourage them is by providing them quality training with strong and stable instructors. This training will, therefore, meet the need for a riding school for girls in India. Yamaha supports these young riders through YFRT to be safe riders and less prone to accidents. YFRT is also a good platform to explain the features and benefits of our scooter Ray that we launched in September last year, the response for which has been very encouraging.”
India Yamaha Motor’s YFRT programme has already been conducted in Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Coimbatore. The company now plans to take the programme forward to smaller towns and cities.
The company sold a total of 29,787 units in January 2013 comprising 22,150 motorcycles and 7,637 scooters, an overall growth of 13.26 percent over sales in January 2012. In the 10-month period of April 2012-January 2013, India Yamaha has sold a total of 294,964 units (253,218 motorcycles + 41,746 scooters), down 1.23 percent over sales a year ago. At present it has 11 products in the domestic market, comprising 10 bikes and one scooter. Its import portfolio includes the VMAX, YZF-R1 and FZ1.
