May 25, 2013: Hyundai Motor India has stopped production of the Accent saloon which it had launched a decade ago. According to Mint newspaper, which quoted a company official, the decision to phase out the car was taken in order to make space for a new compact car that Hyundai plans to launch that will take on the Maruti Swift.

The Accent sold about 2,800 units in 2012-13, down by about 60 percent from the 8,900 units sold in 2011-12. The Swift sold 184,000 units in the last fiscal.

According to Mint, the new car will be positioned between the i10 and i20 models.
