Hyundai Motor India rolls out its 5 millionth car

Chennai, October 17, 2013: Hyundai Motor India, the country’s largest exporter and the second-largest car manufacturer today announced the milestone production of its five millionth car – a Grand i10 – at its manufacturing unit in Irrungattukottai, near Chennai, since it started production in the India in 1998.

Chennai, October 17, 2013: Hyundai Motor India, the country’s largest exporter and the second-largest car manufacturer today announced the milestone production of its five millionth car – a Grand i10 – at its manufacturing unit in Irrungattukottai, near Chennai, since it started production in the India in 1998.

Hyundai has successfully completed 15 years in India of bringing world-class products to the Indian market.

Speaking on the occasion, B S Seo, MD and CEO, HMIL, said: “The five million car roll-out is an important milestone and a symbol of Hyundai's long-term commitment to the Indian market. As we reach this significant landmark, I would thank our valuable customers, founding partners, employees, dealers and suppliers for their support and commitment. We will continue to focus our efforts in the Indian automobile industry through investments and world-class products.”

Over 15 years Hyundai has invested US$ 2.7 billion (Rs 16,572 crore) in its Indian operations and currently has a production capacity of 680,000 cars. At present, it has a 46 percent export market share and 20.3 percent in the domestic passenger car market.

Over the years, it has helped create 9,500 direct jobs at HMIL and 127,800 indirect jobs through its 119 component vendors (77 Indian + 42 Korean) and its 372 dealers.
