Hyundai Motor India plots 8 new models by 2020
While three are slated to be new segment products, five will be a full model change, apart from regular product enhancements and face-lifts to existing passenger vehicles.
With passenger vehicle sales in India seeing an uptick as a result of a gaggle of new models in the past year, manufacturers are putting in place new model development programmes.
Hyundai is bullish on India, given that the country ranks third in sales for the Korean carmaker after China and the US.
As per a PTI report, Hyundai Motor India plans to substantially expand its product range for the domestic market with the launch of eight new products by the year 2020.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai yesterday, Y K Koo, managing director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said: “During the National Dealer Conference in Seoul, South Korea, we had announced new products for the Indian market for the next four years from 2017-2020 for a strong market leadership with sustainable growth. We will expand and strengthen our product line with eight new launches equipped with new technologies out of which, three will be new segment products and five will be full model change, apart from regular product enhancements and facelifts," he said.
According to Koo, Hyundai will showcase the Ioniq hybrid at the Auto Expo in February 2018. “In the second half of 2018, of the three new segment products, we want to introduce a new family-oriented concept and design-led product, followed by a sub-4-metre SUV in the first half of 2019."
Besides introduction of new models, Koo said, the company would also introduce mild and full hybrid technology in India.
Hyundai Motor India has in the first 11 months of the fiscal year sold a total of 343,469 units, down 3% over the 354,100 units sold in the year-ago period.
