Hyundai Motor India today launched the much-awaited Creta SUV at prices starting from Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The SUV will compete with the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Maruti S-Cross.
The Creta is available in a choice of three engines — a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.4 or a 1.6-litre diesel from the Verna sedan. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard across all variants, with only the 1.6 diesel SX+ variant getting the option of a six-speed automatic — a first in this segment. There is no petrol automatic or four-wheel drive version on offer for now.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Hyundai Creta with a 1.4 diesel engine has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 21.38 kpl, the highest among the three. The 1.6 diesel manual returns 19.67kpl, the diesel automatic has a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.01kpl and the 1.6 petrol engine returns 15.29kpl.
The Creta will be available in six trim levels — Base, S, S+, SX, SX+ and the top-spec SX (O).
The Base variant gets standard features like rear AC vents, remote locking, a 12V power outlet, a 4-speaker audio system and ABS. Meanwhile, the feature-loaded SX(O) variant comes with premium features like six airbags, leather upholstery, keyless entry and go, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Speaking at the launch today in New Delhi, B S Seo, managing director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said: “The Creta is a revolutionary product – a true expression of the ‘New Age Hyundai’. We are confident the Creta will strengthen Hyundai’s position in India.”
Hyundai Motor India is offering a three-year, unlimited kilometres warranty to Creta buyers.
