New Delhi, August 14, 2012: Hyundai has launched its all-new Elantra saloon with four diesel and three petrol variants. Prices for the diesel variants start at Rs 12.91 lakh and go up to Rs 15.85 lakh, while the petrol variants start at Rs 12.51 lakh and go up to Rs 14.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Speaking at the launch, B S Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India (pictured), said that the launch of the new Elantra in the executive segment makes Hyundai a full line-up manufacturer.

Based on a new platform, the fifth-generation Elantra incorporates Hyundai’s already successful fluidic design language and comes packed with an exhaustive feature list, including ventilated seats, audio controls for the rear passengers, hill-start assist, dual-zone air-conditioning, steering-mounted audio and cruise controls, rear parking sensors, and even heated mirrors. On the safety front, the Elantra is equipped with six airbags, ABS, vehicle stability management (VSM) and electronic stability control (ESC). Even the base variant gets dual front airbags.

Powering the car is a pair of petrol and diesel engines, both of which come with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. The four-cylinder petrol engine develops 146bhp, while the diesel unit, similar to the one found on the new Verna, puts out 126bhp.

The 1.6-litre diesel Elantra returns an ARAI-rated, class-best, 22.7kpl, while the 1.8-litre petrol returns 16.3kpl.
