April 1, 2013: Honda’s aggression in the two-wheeler market has helped it not only to successfully tackle the slowdown but also hit record sales in March 2013. During the last month of financial year 2012-13, it sold 252,000 units, which consisted of 120,000 motorcycles. Both figures are its highest ever for the company in a month. The strong performance helped the company capture a 20 percent market share in the domestic market in March 2013.

During the year, HMSI sold 2.75 million two-wheelers, a 31 percent growth over the previous year. That helped the Japanese OEM capture a 17 percent share of the Indian two-wheeler market at the end of the fiscal year. Its motorcycle sales grew higher on a lower base than scooters. HMSI sold 1.29 million motorcycles, which is a 49 percent growth over the previous year. Its scooter sales rose 18 percent year-on-year with total sales of 1.46 million units.
